What does Jamanegs mean?

I think it might be 'jamón con huevos' but I'm confused by what it is trying to say, and I'm wondering if there is a true translation of the word.

Context: "Dice mi padre que cuando él llegó a este país comió jamanegs durante tres meses. Desayuno, almuerzo y cena. Jamangegs. Era la única palabra que se sabía. Ya nunca come jamón con huevos." From "La Casa en Mango Street", de Sandra Cisneros.

Thanks!
