Possession of something intangible.

Question

I am attempting to write a piece about 'La sociedad de consumo y publicidad' and would like to include the sentence:

"adverts are normally created in order to prey upon the insecurities which people may have". Or at least something similar.

I have this so far, but am not sure about the last part:

"Publicidad y anuncios normalmente son creado para cebarse la gente y algunas inseguridades que puedan tener."

Also, I'm not sure about cebarse, any suggestions for 'to prey upon'?
