This is a very good question: There's a rule in spanish grammar, I don't know how's it called, but, you say EL ALMA because it's a noun, it starts with "A" and it's written in singular, if you write ALMAS you have to write: LAS ALMAS.

Can someone with more knowledge than 'yours truly' explain why our SD dictionary has the following entry: alma

...and yet we use the masculine article "el" for this Spanish word? I am sure it should be something quite obvious but a simple explanation would be appreciated...trying to keep it consistent with all that I am learning!
