Latin American movie ideas.
Wikipedia has some great movie ideas. 1) In 1994, the Mexican magazine Somos published their list of "The 100 best movies of the cinema of Mexico" in its 100th edition. The article can no longer be found on Wikipedia, but I'm sure a general search will pull up a lot of information. So far I found that eight of the movies were by Roberto Gavaldón and also the following movie titles (not his): Solo con tu pareja, Allí está el detalle, águila o sol, and Allí esta el detalle. 2) List of Latin American Films: link text 3) Cinema of Cuba: link text Cinema of Spain: link text 4) Cinema of Mexico: link text 5) Golden Age of Mexican Cinema: link text 6) Cantinflas movies could be compared to those of Bob Hope, and since I love many Bob Hope movies, it is no surprise that I'm also fond of Cantinflas movies. You can find a list at link text.

Thanks for the good information. One of my favorite recent movies was Pans Labyrinth. As for Cantinflas, I just can't focus on anything else but his moustache.
The best Latin American movie I saw recently was from Brazil, the very excellent Tropa de Elite.
I recently watched Paraiso Travel. Great production quality, a pretty good film if you want to compare the difference in the perception of someone from a fortunate background in their own (developing) country and that which they encounter in a different reality, and good if you are interested in Colombian Spanish.

As for films shot in Latin America. My socio recently got a part as a US soldier in a Sam Axe film. He got a ride in a helicopter to boot. As a 'westerner' in Colombia one finds it easy to get acting parts in films, soaps and even in global Guinness adverts - We got to drink the only draught Guinness ever to be imported to Colombia, shot for 4 hours and got aobut 1.5 seconds in the ad ![]()
