We've been there before. In 3 days we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the People Power Revolution in 1986 that ousted then-dictator Marcos. We achieved democracy again, but I haven't seen any real progress here in our country. The poor still outnumber everyone else, while the rich are getting wealthier & wealthier by the day. Graft, corruption, & cronyism are still prevalent, seeds of which were mostly sown during the days when Marcos was in power. People in countries today that are revolting against oppression must be vigilant, for freedom is not enough; it is just a beginning, not an end. Based on the Philippine experience, it is easier to topple a dictator & gain freedom than to create and maintain a government that truly works for its citizens.
