how do I say how was your weekend?

How do I say 'how was your weekend?' I want to ask my friend because she had a bad week at work and she was looking forward to her weekend.

I know it's a simple question, but somehow it is defeating me. Nothing seems right somehow!

Please help me.

Hi, Victoriana. Welcome to the forum.

You could say:

¿Cómo te fue el fin de semana? (How did the weekend go for you?)

Of course there are many variants as already listed. The most common at least in Mexico are ¿Cómo te fue el fin de semana? and ¿Qué tal el fin de semana?" For me, "..... tu semana?" sounds a little strange because it´s not really someones weekend and when te is used, then it becomes redundant.

Julian if your comment about tu semana had been written in response to a comment I had written earier but had retracted I had already realized the same point there was no need for tu and te in the same sentence as the meaning was already carried by tu - FELIZ77, Feb 21, 2011
thanks anyway :) - FELIZ77, Feb 21, 2011
Self-correction earlier (Sorry: (typo) - FELIZ77, Feb 21, 2011
Not to worry, Feliz. I don´t know which post had it, but I am just commenting on usage in Mexico City and I suppose it can be regional - 005faa61, Feb 21, 2011

Mariana is right.

Other options could be:

Qué tal tu fin de semana?

Qué tal estuvo tu fin de semana?

I usually use the first option or Marianne's suggestion they are both great :) - FELIZ77, Feb 21, 2011

You could say either of the following: :

¿Qué tal tu fin de semana?

o

¿Cómo te fue el fin de semana?

If you wanted to say I hope (that) you have /(will have) a good weekend, you could say:

Espero que tengas un buen fin de semana

I hope that helps :-)

Maybe you could state it with a hopefulness:

Espero que tuvieras un buen fin de semana.

I hope you had a good weekend.
