Question

Hi,

There is something I am unsure of which I can only demonstrate with examples. I suspect there will be many mistakes as I've tried to include everything I'm unsure of. Could you please explain the general rule around my mistakes?

It is important for us to go there. Es importante para nosotros ir alli.

I went home to study. Fui a la casa para estudiar.

It's good for him to sleep. Esta bien para el a dormir.

Also, I do not remember the rules for using 'a' in places we don't in English. Could somebody please provide me with a link to learn it?

I wouldn´t translate these sentences in that way, but if it´s the use of para you want to clarify, then see Paralee´s lesson 3.6 - Encalada, Feb 19, 2011

I'm not sure if this will help but when you have a goal is when you have to use "a", in your example: "Está bien para él dormir"", you don't need to use "a" because in English you didn't meant to say "It's good for him in order to sleep", but in the other sentences you can say "I went home in order to study, in your first example you can't say "in order to", that's why you didn't write an "a", so my conclusion is that when you use the infinitive form of the verb you don't use the "a", but when you use it in the sense of "to do something" or like I said before "in order to" you use "a or para", I hope to have helped you.
