Favourite Spanish language singers / groups

I've been doing translating homework this afternoon and had some of my favourite Spanish language groups and singers on in the background. Some of my favourites are:

  • Grupo 5
  • William Luna
  • Los Caribeños de Guadalupe
  • Buena Vista Social Club
  • Gian Marco
  • Maná
  • Julieta Venegas

I wondered what your favourites are? Maybe, like me, you enjoy learning vocab through listening to song lyrics?

smile

Here is one of my favourite William Luna songs (Niñachay):

And here's another (Vienes y Te Vas):

Alejandro Fernández, Shakira, Juanes, Celia Cruz, Julieta Venegas, Gloria Estefan's Mi Tierra, Maná. Yes, like you, Amy, I love to translate lyrics of favorite songs. In this way I've improved my vocabulary and ability to understand Spanish, and it's a lot more fun than grammar exercises. Translating short stories is also a lot of fun, and reading them out loud helps me improve my pronunciation/accent. Three that I've read this week and recommend are La noche boca arriba by Julio Cortázar, El nietecito by Jacinto Benavente, and the poem Los Maderos de San Juan by José Asunción Silva. A great story that I'm going to read again, a theatrical work, is La casa de Bernarda Alba by Federico García Lorca.

I like Shakira too - especially La Totura! I was living in the UK when that came out and had to get a friend to send me a copy of the album from Peru! (They had different versions of the songs on the UK version). :) - amy_moreno, Feb 16, 2011
Oops, typing too fast as usual! *La Tortura - amy_moreno, Feb 16, 2011
And thanks for the ideas for short stories to read. :) - amy_moreno, Feb 16, 2011
I listen to Suerte; Te Aviso, Te Anuncio; and Hips Don't Lie almost every weekend. - Intense, Mar 10, 2011

Well, just off top... I would say Wisin y Yandel... however, I'm a musician and I love and live music, so to truly answer your question would be near impossible for me. wink

Here's a safe site where you can find a cds of Bachata, Reggaeton, and some other Spanish music. I'll return with others that have a wider variety later. smile

No, I've not heard of that - what is it? Sounds interesting :) - amy_moreno, Feb 16, 2011
Amy it is from RadioLingua. There are over 70 lessons to be loaded on MP3 player. It is from Scotland, it is outstanding. Covers alot of grammar - Ann-Frances, Feb 16, 2011
I bumped my suggestions for MP3 players: you can get it off Apple for free if you have an iPod - Ann-Frances, Feb 16, 2011
