Spanish-English dictionary

I use the dictionary and online translator often and it's great. I am looking for an English-Spanish dictionary that I can use for when I'm not in front of the computer.

Can anybody recommend a decent dictionary that I can use now when I'm a beginner that will also last and be useful when I'm fluent (if I ever get that far LOL)

Muchas gracias

I have an old Larousse amongst others but I'm very happy with the Collins, there is a new version coming out which can be viewed here: link text The price is pretty good, I'm sure I paid a lot more. Also you must keep in mind that this is a very large and heavy book, so you might want a smaller portable paperback that also deals with grammar pointers.

I would also recommend "501 Spanish Verbs." I've used mine for years. It will take you nicely from beginner to advanced. Thumb through one in a bookstore to see what it is, and notice the pages of notes that precede and follow the main part containing the conjugations.

For a really lightweight solution, if you have a Kindle (or other ebook reader), I suggest the Barron's Spanish/English dictionary.

Thanks that's what I was looking for 2,200 pages too! That'll keep me busy.....

Great price too for such a large book.

I think I'll buy it when it's released!

I'm looking for something that will also include grammar discussions as well as vocabulary if possible.

I guess there are many available. If anyone could recommend a spread of choices from the lightweight paperback to tome that would be helpful - I can then research prices and content and make a decision from there.

The key thing for me is that it has to last and have use across my full range of Spanish as it improves.

Are you looking for a paperback that you can put by your bedside while reading, or do you want a 50 lb. hard cover tome for your den or library?

Do you want it mostly for basic vocabulary look-up or do you want it to include grammar discussions, example sentences, etc.?

How much do you want to spend? You don't want to spend more than you would for lunch or will it be a tax deduction next year?
