does start off small mean in Spanish, comenzar desde abajo?
I was reading a article and I came across this sentence: start off small, I assume it means in Spanish; comenzar desde abajo. If not, can you give the right meaning, please?

(humble, modest): to start in a ~ way empezar(conj.?) de forma muy modesta;
Yours sounds correct, too. Start low, work your way up [high]. We have lots of idioms for saying it also. You need to learn to walk before you can run.
