Tengo una brújula de 150 años, in Spanish we don't use that "yeard-old-" form. - Dakie, Feb 13, 2011
In English, there should not be an "s" after "year" in this case. It should be "I have a 150 year old compass," or "My compass is 150 years old." - happyquilter, Feb 13, 2011
Thank you guys!! - Vaanz, Feb 13, 2011

La Isla Magnética no altera las brújulas, es una leyenda.

Magnetic Island cannot alter a compass. It is a legend.

The name of the island came about because of the apparent "magnetic" effect it had on the ship's compass of Captain Cook as he passed the island when sailing up the east coast of Australia in 1770.[2] People have since explored the general area of Magnetic Island with various instruments to discover what might have caused the effect that Cook reported, but nothing has been discovered. Townsville locals refer to Magnetic Island as "Maggie".

Scientists are so funny....I would have assumed that the problem was caused by a high blood alcohol level rather than a disturbance of the magnetism.... - Echoline, Feb 13, 2011
It was actually a broken compass, Cptn Cook later found this out when he ran aground on the Barrier Reef. - ray76, Feb 13, 2011

Is this a 150 year old compass or witch? In Spanish it is important to spell and use words correctly!

Es esta un cien cincuenta año de edad brújula o una bruja? En español es muy importante "a hechizo" y utilizan las palabras correctamente.

I hope this play on words did not confuse anyone. If you are confused use this as a way of asking questions in another post. I'm sure some of my Spanish is incorrect, sorry. I'm learning, too. grin

The Canary islands have a problem with illegal immigration.People from Magreb risk a perilous sea voyage in dangerous unseaworthy boats which the press call canoes. These desperate people don't have a compass nor adequate instructions to find the Canaries.

This isn't a "word for word" translation I've tried to paraphrase .This is the subject of a presentation I am intending to give in my Spanish class soon.
