Disputed border with Sudan: Bir Tawil - a land belonging to nobody

Both Sudan and Egypt claim Hala'ib triangle and recognize Bir Tawil as part of the other. Thus, Bir Tawil becomes the only land outside Antarctica which is not claimed by any state in the world.

An Introduction to Ancient Egypt

The story of ancient Egypt has survived for thousands of years. Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations of the past. The monuments and tombs of their Pharaohs continue to stand intact today, some 4,000 years later!

.

Egypt in the Christian bible

.

A good portion of the Old testament takes place in or around Egypt. Egypt also plays a major role in the life of many Bible people from Moses and Joseph to Jesus.

.

Where in the world is Egypt?

.

Egypt is situated in the northeast corner of the Africa.

.

Map of where Egypt is

.

A large river called the River Nile flows through the country into the Mediterranean Sea. The Nile enters Egypt from the Sudan and flows north for about 1545 km (about 960 m) to the sea.

.

Where did the Ancient Egyptians live?

.

The Ancient Egyptians lived along the banks of the river Nile in Egypt. Farmers first settled in Egypt along the River Nile around 5000 B.C.

.

Where do most people in Egypt live today?

.

About 95 % of Egypt's population still live in the Nile valley (the area next to the river).

.

Why is the River Nile important to the Egyptians today and in the past?

.

Egypt is mainly made up of hot deserts and receives little rainfall. Without the River Nile, the area would be entirely desert.

.

What is meant by "the gift of the Nile"?

.

All of Egypt depended on the Nile for water, food and transportation. The Nile also provided the ancient Egyptians with fertile land which helped them to grow their crops and raise their animals. .

Before modern dams were built the river Nile would flood each year coating the land on either side of the river with thick back mud. This mud was ideal for growing crops on. .

What is the difference between red land and black land?

.

The people in Ancient Egypt divided Egypt into two areas.

  1. The 'red land' was the deserts protecting Egypt on two sides. These deserts separated ancient Egypt from neighbouring countries and invading armies.
  2. The black land was the fertile land (near the Nile River) where the ancient Egyptians grew their crops.

.

The creation of Egypt

.

Two separate kingdoms (ruled by different kings) developed along the Nile River. The kingdom in Upper Egypt was known as the white crown and the kingdom in Lower Egypt was called the red crown. In about 3200 B. C. the pharaoh of the north conquered the south and Egypt became united. The pharaoh's name was King Narmer or Menes.

Menes built a new capital city called Memphis. In the Greek language the word Memphis meant "Balance of the Two Lands."

Well what can I say!

In the history Egypt were one of the most beautiful countries in the word, Pharaohs were the most intelligent people lots of scientists around the world are still trying to figure out how did the Pharaohs mummification their dead bodies, they did lots of surgeries without using any electronic powers.

They created the Hieroglyphs so they can communicate with each others they had schools and they used Papyrus planet as paper.

the ancient Egyptian women used the Kohl as a sign of beauty because they had wide eyes winkalt text

What a brilliant thread! Thanks so much.

* Remember Cleopatra as well, she made an important impression on history and used her wiles to tame Rome. I think it in either Tacitus or Suetonius there is a description of a wondrous luxurious barge which she sailed up the Tiber on a visit to Rome, maybe Plutarch as well?

*

Correct me if I'm wrong, I think it was Suetonius but can't remember.

seemingly she looked like this: link text

It is said she wasn't a great beauty but she obviously knew how to control men. She even tried it on with Herod.

6 de octubre (10 de Ramadan)/ 6th of October (10th of Ramadan)

6th of October, 1973 (10th of Ramadan, 1393 A.H.) was the date on which the Yom Kippur War against Israel began (the war ended with the victory of Egypt and some other Arab states). Thus, 6th of October is the Armed Forces Day in Egypt. And more interestingly, 6th of October or 10th Ramadan is also chosen to name some place names.

-6th of October Governorate (one of 29 Egyptian governorates)

-6th October City: capital of this governorate, the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football (C A F)

-10th Ramadan City (in Sharqia governorate)

-The 6th October Bridge(over the Nile, in Cairo): the current longest bridge in Egypt and Africa and the 2nd longest one in the Arab World.
