I need help proofreading

Hello, I have to write a paragraph describing a picture of a birthday party. I have had a large gap between Spanish classes, so I am struggling.

If someone could check this paragraph to make sure it's correct and explain anything that I'm doing wrong, I would be extremely grateful!

En la ilustración, la gente están celebrar una fiesta de cumpleaños de la mujer. Un invitado le da un regalo a la mujer y esto hace ella sonreír. En el fondo, la gente están bailar con la música y una par es brindar con champán. Todo el mundo se ríen y lo pasan bien. Los invitados comerán dulces, galletas, pastel de chocolate, helado y flan de caramelo. Ellos beben champaña y vino.

En la ilustración, la gente está(gente is plural so you don't have to use están) celebrando (Progressive) una fiesta de cumpleaños de la mujer(If in the picture it's clear which woman you're talking about then "la mujer" is ok" but if it's not clear you have to say "una mujer" and change "una fiesta" por "la fiesta") . Un invitado le da un regalo a la mujer y esto hace **a ella sonreír. En el fondo, la gente está bailando con la música y una pareja está brindando con champán. Todo el mundo se ríe y lo pasan bien. Los invitados comerán(will eat? or eat =comen) dulces, galletas, pastel de chocolate, helado y flan de caramelo. Ellos beben champaña y vino.

Thank you! I am unfamiliar with the progressive, so I was not sure what to put. In the picture a man is giving a gift to a woman, so I'm assuming that the party is for her. I really appreciate your help! - bluangel8104, Feb 12, 2011
