I see two possibilities: Resulted from a lie / Turned out to be false (resultar de can mean result from, de mentira can mean false) I would favor the "it turned out to be false." For whatever my opinion on these matters is worth. lol. - webdunce, Feb 11, 2011

I think that with "resultó" you might have a better translation with something like "it turned out to be false", or depending on context, "it turned out to be pretend".
