Proverb Game, everyone's participation is needed! =)

Question

So I've been your man for daily proverbs, hopefully enlightening and thought inspiring, and I was thinking of how I could make it a little more fun and retainable.

I recently came across a site that offers online radios from various countries here, which listening to these can not only help you discover wonderful music but as well help you surround yourself more in Spanish. But they also offer decent crosswords to practice numbers. ANYWAY, on to the best part, they feature a hangman filled with proverbs. I figured playing this will make you think and if you don't Google it, you'll retain the proverbs and their meanings because you had to work for them. I hope everyone finds these as enjoyable as I do.

NOW, my challenge to you is...

If you are brave, don't google for it, just try to guess or to find out using the dictionary/translator to translate a proverb and that proverb will be yours. Then come back here and post your proverb in English & Spanish. Then as well, I want to briefly describe what that proverb means for you. This is for English & Spanish speakers and this can make a big difference in your learning if you utilize it. This post will stay open, and there will be no right or wrong answer, only your proverb and briefly what it means to you.

So if you're wanting to show your intelligence and skill and advance your Spanish, step up to the plate and take a swing. There is no time limit, so keep them coming.

Rough translation - In bad times friends get to know each other.

To me it means something like "When the going gets rough you find out who your real friends are."

Or maybe the English saying "A friend in need is a friend indeed."

It's a doggy, dog world. When my daughter was young she thought people were saying this when they were really saying "dog eat dog". It is now a proverb in our family but no one knows what it means.
