Hello, I'm looking for a phrase that expresses this:
"He's beating down his whole staff. He has no idea how to boost morale."

I prefer subordinar in that context. Someter & sujetar, I think, would also fit.

Maltratar is what I would use, I have no idea if there is a colloquial idiomatic phrase though.
