iPhone Confession App: Catholic Church approved
I have heard this amazing info on the news today on Spanish TV
Hang on, of course you can’t make your Catholic Church confession with an app…except now, believe it or not, you can.
Not only can you get the iTunes Confession app ($1.99 or £1.19, there’s a price to pay for confession) but it has been approved by the Catholic Church in the U.S. and it’s described as “the perfect aid for every penitent,” according to BBC News. Users can admit their wrongdoings through the step-by-step guide to the sacrament and a confessions walkthrough, and even keep track of their sins, in what seems to be quite a radical move by the Catholic Church.
So one can now confess online and does not even have to go to church any more? Hmmm
I have always found these TV preachers amazing...so many followers actually send money to them How people trust these guys is beyond me.
Anyway, what do you think? Should this be considered just another step forward, modern technology should be accepted as such and we should be able to use it everywhere?

I just looked that up on the internet, and i found the official archdiocese of saint paul mn. website that says that the application is not to replace the act of contrition, but for a guide, to help those(particularly those who haven't been to church in a while) with a true and spiritual act of contrition. here is the page i found...

there is no possible way to replace confession with an application, because the act is completed solamente cúando a priest, or someone given the power to absolve, absolves you of your sins, and gives you a penance. the whole purpose behind it is confessing to another person.

Now I can confess between bank roberies without wasting any more time on saving my soul!

I definitely don't like that. I mean going to church is a very important thing and no apps can take away that!
When God created Confession he made it so we can face our mistakes and the first example for that was when God called Adam and made him face his mistake by asking him if he ate from the tree....etc God knew that Adam did that and he didn't need to ask!

Unfortunately, some have now tried to extend the idea by claiming that the Catholic faith in general is also a silly idea.
I ddo think the iphone idea is really silly, but as I said before, it is quite beyond me how anybody can trust a TV preacher too; No matter what faith he pretends to have.
Some of these comments call for a response, but for now I will leave it alone. I can defend my faith against critics, but should I really have to do that at a Spanish learning site?

I fail to see how this could possibly work , Father McInnerny was always there to
help and would offer every assistance when my memory failed me , he always had a
list of my various offences at hand to prompt me when I innocently ,either forgot one
or three of them ,or had misinterpreted the correct sequence of events , like the
fact that the stink bomb was placed into the organ bellows before I started
pumping, and that sister Brenda did not loan me one of her under garments in
order to make a parachute . I was convinced he had help from on high ,which did
possibly stop me from more dangerous adventures ,and making sure my confessions
fitted the facts more closely. I cannot believe than an electronic confession box
could replace the brilliance and prescience of Father Mcinnerny.
I was appalled on first seeing those fake coin-operated candle things.

Well, I've been a Catholic all my life and if they want to attack my church, I try to take it in stride. Folks have been attacking it for 2000 years and it's still around so that must mean something. Also, as many mistakes that people in the Church have made over the last 2000 years; my belief is that God must be present in it or it wouldn't have survived this long with all us stupid humans screwing it up all this time.
Here's something I remind myself: The Catholic Church on earth is made up entirely of sinners. The only really good Catholics are up in heaven by the grace of God.
Finally, to get back to the confession topic. My Pa (who was born 101 years ago) used to tell us kids that when he went to confession he would tell the priest, "Father, I committed just one sin . . . and that's a lie."
I have also heard the news. In my judgement, the Catholic Church oftentimes contradicts itself, which is a subject for a long and zealous discussion, I guess. In this particular case, the Church, by introducing !Phone confession, demonstrates that it is not behind the times and adjusts to modern world. However, when I think about its outlook on the issues of condoms or in vitro, for example, I am quite puzzled about the insitution of Church in general. 
Better believe in what J. Lennon once sang and voilà! it's enough....

I hope you did not find what I said offensive. If you did, that was not my intention.
That is why I said this:
That might not work for others, but it is what I believe.
As Heidi said, we can all feel free to speak our minds and share our beliefs. If you would like to share or support your faith or what you believe, we should all be willing to be open to the discussion. I know this is a Spanish learning site, but this category has been declared a place where we can discuss anything. As I said, I was a Roman Catholic for the first twenty years of my life. I now believe differently. The rest of my family (parents, sister, aunts, uncles and cousins) are still Roman Catholic.
I know there are others who don't share my beliefs and who may even openly oppose what I believe. That doesn't bother me in the least. I don't think we should be rude or insulting about anyone's faith. However, I think that discussion and interaction on this topic is possible and can even be quite interesting. That is even despite the fact that in this world we are all repeatedly warned to refrain from discussing religion or politics. 
The article on Catholic confession is a little misleading. The penitent cannot, as was implied, make a confession to an iphone. The new rule simply allows the person to prepare for the sacrament by using technology to keep track of, and reflect on, his/her sins. Catholics already use books and pamphlets to do pretty much the same thing. It's just a matter of replacing a book with an iphone. Catholics must still confess their sins to a priest privately and verbally.
