Sentence-Lo siento or Siento?

The sentence below is from my other site but I would have put "Lo siento llegar tarde.", am I correct? Is the next sentence a common phrase "I overslept."?

Siento llegar tarde. Me quedé dormido. I'm sorry I'm late. I overslept.

Gracias

I rephrase, I have said that to my teachers. - Dakie, Feb 10, 2011
Looking up sentir here it does allow you to drop the lo so thanks Dakie. - foxluv, Feb 10, 2011

Your choice is correct.

You can also say Lo siento por llegar tarde (por haber llegado tarde)

Me quedé dormido. is also correct.

Perdónenme por llegar tarde. Me he levantado demasiado tarde. or Me he quedado dormido.

Forgive me for being late. I've got up too late.

but I think that Pretérito perfecto (with haber) is better here, because you overslept, and that's why you're late. It has connection with present

I think it's too formal. - Dakie, Feb 10, 2011
maybe, but I always try to speak most purely possible ;) - Sinedd, Feb 10, 2011
