Learning English for Spanish Speakers
Greetings. I recently started tutoring some native Mexicans as part of a free literacy program. I have previously tutored a couple of Jordanians and helped them to pass the U.S. Citizenship exam. I don't speak a foreign language, but am able to teach people how to speak English, mostly be using Picture Dictionaries and other such tools.
I wonder if everyone realizes that the flashcards on this site are not only great for learning Spanish (if you know English) but are also great for learning English (if you know Spanish)?
The key thing to switch the site to "learn English" mode is at the top right of the page. Click on "En español" and now all of the instructions on the flashcards are in Spanish and the various tests are converted so that you can learn English if you know Spanish.
I LOVE this site.
p.s. although I don't know Spanish and can teach Spanish speakers without knowing Spanish I think I'll be much more effective if I learn Spanish. I like computer based learning and plan to go through all the lessons here. I've done 1.1 and 1.2 so far, and it's fun!

Estoy de acuerdo. Me encanta Spanishdict. Y es gratis! Enseño Mexicanos también. Este sitio es muy bien para enseñar inglés, pero los Mexicanos que enseño no tienen internet.
I agree. I love Spanishdict. And it's free! I also teach English to Mexicans. This site is great for teaching English, but the Mexicans that I teach don't have internet.
I agree with Carcar that the Mexicans I teach don't have internet. The libraries have free internet, but my clientes are young mothers with babies and preschoolers, and they don't have cars. It's very dificult to take the bus to the library and study there with children.
I also love this site. It is very engaging. I too teach English to immigrants, and I agree that it is easier to teach English when you know a little of the other person's language, although that is not necessary. I took one year of Spanish in college, and now I'm continuing on my own. I'm finding the basic lessons to be a good review, especially the writing part. I also love the Iphone Spanishdict app. I review the words of the day while waiting around. Waiting has never been so enjoyable!
Good luck with your studies.
