There are relationships that, once started, never end. For instance friendship.

Here's another "hay"

Heno (m)

You will have to think about that one.

The Spanish word "hay" is one of my favorite words. For those of us learning the language, it is very useful in many applications. It's a word we hear a lot in conversation, so it is easy to discover various uses for the word.

First, there is a useful video on this site using the word "hay" in basic sentences around the house. Here is a link to that video:

link text

The first sentence shown is "Hay que lavar los platos." or "Someone should/it is necessary to wash the dishes." That phrase can also be used with other infinitives for similar applications.

"Hay" can also be used for "there are". The quickest sentence I can recall is from the Bible, John 14:1 (NVI) "en el hogar de mi Padre hay muchas viviendas", or "in the home of my Father there are many dwelling places".

I thought I'd offer this because Spanish students like me capitalize on commonly used words and phrases to communicate the best we can.

I'm a novice here, so consider the source.

When I saw the question I thought, "alfalfa, pasto, heno..."

But I see Eddy has the real answer.
