Me quedé asombrada por el cuento.
Which is the correct way to use the phrase?

El cuento me quedó asombrado
That looks to me like: The story remained suprising to me.
I was wondering for some time if this could be a passive-reflexive form of passive voice, but I agree that what is remaining surprised is also the subject, so this is truly reflexive usage. (rather than some other pronominal usage).
What I wanted to say was "I was surprised by the story," so I suppose the correct translation would be "me quedé asombrada por el cuento."

Me quedé asombrada por el cuento. Welcome to the forum

Nope, I would say: El cuento me dejó asombrado, "Me quedó asombrado is Incorrect", the closest thing to that would be "El cuento me quedó asombroso" but there you would be saying something like "The tale that I wrote is amazing", I don't think there's a literal translation for "me quedó" in that sense.
Dakie - Would you say "El cuento me quedó asombrado - The story left me amazed, and "Me quedé asombrodo = I found myself amazed by = I was left amazed by? Gracias.
"El cuento me quedó..." = The story (for me) ended up...
"El cuento me quedó asombrado" (????) = The story (for me) ended up astonished (????)
Me quedé asombrado = I ended up astonished
Me quedé asombrado con el cuento = I ended up astonished with the story
