Ingeniero ambiental sounds like it to me. I work with an environmental agency in the Caribbean. Sounds like your husband is a good guy to know.

Yes ,agreed. "ingeniero ambiental" is the usage I hear in the maqilas.

Perhaps... "ingeniero ambiental" ... ? The "environment" is el medio ambiente.
