Estaba buscando. Is the pronoun needed?

In this show she says: Estaba buscando. and means, Estaba buscándote. I am 9000 percent sure she did not say "te estaba buscando". Is the pronoun needed or is what she said improper? Gracias.

Buscar needs an object...unless you know exactly what you are talking about:
pepe: Has visto mi cartera? Llevo buscando media hora!!
However, if it's a person, I cannot imagine a sentence without the pronoun.

I suppose it sounds as if you said "I was looking for" in English, instead of "looking for you".
