Hemos venido en son de paz. Why "en son de paz" and not just "en paz"? Gracias.

En son de paz means To come with a peaceful attitude. En paz means To come in peace. En son de paz can be the result of a previous falling out and a desire to call it a truce. En paz is not necessarily a deliberate act.

**It´s in the part that says "en -- de".

Obviously "son" means "in some way or mood", but it's used as a pharse. - Dakie, Feb 2, 2011

So "en son" means mood? So "en son de broma" "en son de tristeza" in a joking mood, a sad mood, and "¿a son de qué?" what mood, or would it be, for what reason? So son can mean mood and cause? Gracias.

Excelente. I think son is short for sonido, which is kind of a color you could give a phrase such as broma, tristeza, etc. I've never heard a son de que. - gone, Feb 2, 2011

If son means "they are"...that's mind boggling.
