I have never heard that word and I'm hispanic. Maybe it is "pala" that means "shovel".

"Necesito una pala para remover la nieve". I need a shovel to remove the snow.

And "bola" means ball. But be careful because Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, etc., can use different words for one object; and sometimes the same word have different meanings. It can be a good word for me, but it can be an insult to another person. So when I travel to hispanic countries I always ask what means this word for them. Because I have had bad exeriences with this.

In photography, photographers use to say "la pola" for "a polaroid picture".

Maybe he said pala, shovel.

Or something else.

In Spain they say too "polla", but is a vulgar name for penis.
