"...costó un millón de pesetas por plaza."

I am translating a text about farms. So there is this guy who is talking about his farm and his cows. He speaks about the innovations in the farm.And eventually he says:

La instalación costó un millón de pesetas por plaza.

How do I translate this? The installation cost 1 million pesetas per square meter/per place?

I think plaza in this context is the place designated to each animal the farm will produce, each cow.

I´m not sure if post, crib, box are possible translations. But I think square meter is not accurate.

Well it can't be each box/place for a cow because they must have at least a 1000 cows and a converter told me that 1 000 000 pesetas equals ~ $8000. So I doubt they invested $8 000 000 in that farm.

Or would it refer to the area where they only milk the cows. Because this is automated anyway.
