I need assistance with grocery shopping. In Mexico everything is by kilo. How many pounds are in a kilo? How do you ask for a half a kilo? What is the word for turkey?

Are you asking for half a pound, or half a kilo- half a pound is just under a quarter of a kilo. - Stadt, Feb 1, 2011

So, "pavo" is the meat of the turkey, just like "res" is the meat of the "vaca?" - cristalino, Feb 1, 2011
No, pavo=turkey, no matter which way you look at. unless, of course you are referring to different cuts of meat. - NCISfan15, Feb 1, 2011

Un medio no se usa. Normalmente, se debería decir "Quiero medio kilo de pavo"

"Quiero un medio kilo de pavo" would get what you want.

Yes it would get you what you want but quisiera or even me gustarĂa (the conditional tense) is more respectful and would reflect a greater understanding of Spanish - FELIZ77, Feb 1, 2011
However you would get the right product but not the correct quantity since a half kilo is not the same as half a pound you would have to convert to kilos and ask for the correct quantity - FELIZ77, Feb 1, 2011

A pound is roughly a half a kilo.

Two pounds are roughly a kilo.

You can say:

Me da medio kilo de pavo (rebanado), por favor.

Quiero medio kilo de pavo.
