Anyone ever heard the following: "A la reja con todo y chivas"... I am not 100% sure that is what I overheard (at a job site) or if I even have the right words but it has me wondering just the same. rolleyes

It´s very usual in Mexico. Suposedly it mimics the cry of the jailer when an offender is let in freedom.

A la reja! is an order, and means that the prisoner must present himself at the door of the cell, or the bars (la reja) in order to get out of the jail.

Con todo y chivas! means that he or she should bring whit him or her all his or her personal belongings in order to not let some behind.

Chivas, in argot, means things, belongings....:

Recoge tus chivas: Pick up your belongings.

It is used when someone, for instance the boss, calls someone else, a clerk, to his or her office, and shouts out the name of the employee, for example:

Juan!

and then one of his or her mates replies:

A la reja con todo y chivas!

And that means that he or she must go inmediatly to the boss' office whit paper and a pencil.
