The RAE tells us:
Consentir. (Del lat. consent?re).
- tr. Permitir algo o condescender en que se haga. U. t. c. intr.
- tr. creer (? tener por cierto algo).
- tr. Mimar a los hijos, ser muy indulgente con los niños o con los inferiores.
- tr. Der. Otorgar, obligarse.
- tr. p. us. Dicho de una cosa: Soportar, tolerar algo, resistirlo.
- prnl. p. us. Dicho de una cosa: Resentirse, desencajarse, principiar a romperse
