Okay, I need to be clearer regarding the protuberances
Thank you, first of all for your interesting answers, all: The INTERIOR wall protuberances are found at the Room of the Mortars at Machu Picchu and similarly in an important room at Pisaq. They are very unusual in Inca architecture. Normally, the protuberances are found OUTSIDE of the walls and are thought to have been used as tie downs for angular, peaked roofs over those rooms. However, in the aforementioned cases, the "protuberances" are on the inside of the Room and are very sturdy, conical shaped and jutting out about 8 inches from the wall. I need to know the exact Spanish name of these oddities to be able to facilitate a Google search of their postulated purpose in Inca times. The guides at M.P offer widely diverse theories and the official M.P. site says that as yet it is not known whether there was a roof over the Room of the Mortars. So IF you happen to know alot about Inka architecture,...(these were not used for handling the large stones) I just need the architectural name for these unusual protuberances. Thank you again, very much!

I'm afraid I can't help you much, beyond pointing out that "protuberancias" works as well in Spanish as "protuberances" works in English. I couldn't find any documents describing that room in Spanish in any detail, but I suggest that you do your search by using "cuarto de morteros" or "cuarto de los morteros".
