We are going to go out together, does this imply boyfriend / girlfriend or just going out on a date, or can it imply both? Gracias.

Julián tiene razón. "María y Juan están saliendo" They're dating... And you know this by context. Juntos is not needed to convey this meaning.

"boyfriend / girlfriend" does mean "on a date," doesn´t it? In any case, you don´t need to say "Juntos." With just "Vamos a salir" it´s well understood that someone wants to go out with someone who is the object of his/her affections.
