"Me creo que te tengo." I'm not sure why the "me" is used of how it affects the meaning of the sentence.

Yes it totally affect the meaning... by saying "me creo que te tengo" and not "creo que te tengo" you're kind of trying to convince or fool yourself you have that person ..but without "me" you're just conveying the doubt of having that person or not. did i get the idea across?
