I am having difficulty understanding the translation of "Se parte."I have found the phrase "Se parte en trozos la fruta" translated as "it is cut into pieces, the fruit." However, I find no translation in the Spanishdict Dictionary that would allow me to make that translation. Please Help. Thanks,

Jim

I could be wrong, but this looks like passive se.

If it is, then la fruta is the subject, and se does little else than let us know to interpret the verb passively. Partirse, in this case, would mean "to be cut." In other words, the fruit isn't cutting up things, it's being cut up.

Se parte en trozos la fruta = The fruit is cut into pieces.

An almost literal translation could be: "The fruit is cut in..." A better one could be "The fruit should be cut..."

HI igundy, partir en trozos can mean cut into pieces or break into pieces.

In your context, the most likely option seems to be cutgrin

Right. But that still doesn't tell him why SE is being used. - gone, Jan 27, 2011
