Encajar can also be fit IN. As in "I don't fit in with their little clique."

In English they both translate as fit. But when I think of encajar I imagine fitting snug (I almost hear it snap). Caber is less dramatic and more usual to me. I hope this makes any sense.

Caber en un sillón del restaurante. Encajar would not work here. I hope these examples help.

Say aside from "fit in with a group of people" it's more like "quedarse" for clothes. La ropa me queda bien, la ropa me encaja bien? Gracias. Is that used right? Gracias. - jeezzle, Jan 26, 2011
La ropa no se encaja. Encajar is more to insert and fit snugly afterwards. You can say,,, algo aca no encaja...Something does not fit (like in a jigzaw puzzle) - gone, Jan 26, 2011

So what I wanted to say fit in a booth at a restaurant? No caben allá, does encajar work there too? Or just like a shirt fits like with quedar? Gracias.
