Im designing t-shirts for our groups trip to Mexico and I'm having trouble with the translation of our slogan. "Going the distance to make a difference. " Can anyone help me find good translation that isn't just word for word translation, but catches the meaning too.

va la distancia para hacer una diferencia?

So far that's what I've found, but it doesn't seem quite right.

We have a poet in the forum! Please read Mediterrunio's answer.... It's great and it translates Courten's original English - gone, Jan 26, 2011

Oh but I think we should keep the rhyme! smile It's more effective.

¡Vamos a la distancia y hacemos una diferencia!

the problem is that ´reto´ sounds ambiguous in that phrase (to me) - mediterrunio, Jan 26, 2011
OK... Great contribution. Thanks! This is one of the postings I enjoy working on - gone, Jan 26, 2011

Sorry Sabor ... In Spanish we only have two kinds of rhymes. And the text we're referring to is in Spanish.

A B A B

De nada ... That's why I love Mediterrunious choice. It rhymes and is closer to the original text in English - gone, Jan 26, 2011

Sorry Usarenzo, there are more kinds of rhyme than perfect rhyme.

In the general sense, general rhyme can refer to various kinds of phonetic similarity between words, and to the use of such similar-sounding words in organizing verse. Rhymes in this general sense are classified according to the degree and manner of the phonetic similarity:

syllabic: a rhyme in which the last syllable of each word sounds the same but does not necessarily contain vowels. (cleaver, silver, or pitter, patter)

imperfect: a rhyme between a stressed and an unstressed syllable. (wing, caring)

semirhyme: a rhyme with an extra syllable on one word. (bend, ending) oblique (or slant/forced): a rhyme with an imperfect match in sound. (green, fiend; one, thumb)

assonance: matching vowels. (shake, hate) Assonance is sometimes used to refer to slant rhymes.

consonance: matching consonants. (rabies, robbers)

half rhyme (or sprung rhyme): matching final consonants. (bent, ant)

alliteration (or head rhyme): matching initial consonants. (short, ship) --Wikipedia

I was also thinking about maybe just having Vamonos or Vamos on them and then the rest in English if I don't come up with something that flows right.

Here's my two cents:

Esforzándonos para lograr un cambio
