Whats more common, batín or bata? Under bata, it says "refuse of a coat". Whats that mean?

Robe and dressing gown are often synonyms. Do you ever use an English-English dictionary? One I like is

It depends on the length

batín.

  1. m. Bata con faldas cortas que llega solo un poco más abajo de la cintura.

  2. m. Bata más o menos larga que usan los hombres para estar en casa.

Yes, except that I also know "bata" as the same garment for women. Also applies to lab coats and surgical gowns. - Gekkosan, Jan 26, 2011
