Mexico...a little of everything on any given day...
My husband and I had a bad start to our day this morning.
We left our apartment to discover our street filled with municipal and state police along with several men handcuffed in the back of a police vehicle. Hushed conversations revolved around "balaceras", "secuestros" and "cárteles".
We kept moving, being unclear about what was going on and feeling moderately ill at ease.
However, the day took a sharp turn for the better after that!
We ran into a few people we had not seen since last year; we had a wonderful conversation with a neighbor who lives down the street, we were able to help out a couple of people who were moving to another apartment...but the best part of the day was our English class!
This year we have younger students, ages 10 - 13. They are rather silly at times and tired of school, so we try to make class at 6 PM a fun experience. There is nothing like having students rush into the classroom, fling themselves in our arms and shriek "I love you, Teacher!"
This evening we had so much fun chanting verb conjugations in silly voices and different tones, acting things out as we were saying them and then shouting "freeze!" and laughing at all the silly positions we were in...
None of the students in this class has a father at home, so they love my husband, who always has such a kind smile and encouraging word for them.
Seriously, the day started out so poorly and ended so well for us personally...and yet how many lives were snuffed out today? I do wonder about the future of these students.
Mexico, Mexico, over 30,000 killed in 4 years and yet such a beautiful country.

When I first read your thread I felt a little apprehensive , for I want to go to
Mexico in a few months time to do an immersion course . But then I released
that there are lives being needlessly lost each day all over the world .
Mexico does not have a monopoly on death . A beautiful story Mountaingirl
thank you for sharing . Teaching is the only profession where one receives
far more than one gives ,I meant emotionally.
Thanks for sharing your story Mountain girl. You are doing a great job there. I am sure you are helping those children a lot.
