When I was in Venezuela, many people I knew had ranches with cattle. They were called "haciendas" and were fairly large, with several thousand head of cattle and what you could probably call "cowboys".

It is possible that "rancho" is used in some countries.

To my knowledge, a rancho is not as large as an hacienda.

First of all, what is is "cowboy ranch?" If it's just an ordinary ranch where cowboys happen to work, then it's just a "ranch." or "rancho" in Spanish.

Yes there are other words --estancia, (which is used in some parts of Latin America) and as have been mentioned --hacienda and finca. Are we speaking of a "rancho para vaqueros" which I have never heard of, I just translated the phrase. To me the "for cowboy"s" part is superfluous, unless some other meaning is intended.

In Argentina they call their cowboys "gauchos" So the word of the day as far as this post is concerned is CONTEXT Please let us know what you mean.

Why has no one included "finca" yet? I have heard that word quite a bit = in PR and Panama.
