Term of endearment for male child?

My hispanic neighbors call their sons something that sounds like boy-o. I am not close enough to ask them directly but I would love to know what the word is and what it means. I do know that one family is Puerto Rican and the other is Peruvian.

Bollo sounds more like boyo than does pollo, no idea as to whether it might be used endearingly.

Maybe they have a Welsh connexion and are indeed calling him boyo...

Bollo has a rather vulgar connotation... - Sheily, Jan 23, 2011
Maybe they are a rough family... I looked in the dictionary and it seems to have many meanings, hasta a sweet bun, that's what I had in mind when I posted. - afowen, Jan 23, 2011
I guess if it is the Puerto Rican family using the expression the it would not be bollo :-) - afowen, Jan 23, 2011
