Guajira Guantanamera!

Ok, so I was listening to some Pitbull the other day & the song was called Guantanamera, good track is you're interested, but there's a phrase in there that has to do with the song that I just don't understand... in fact I really don't know what the title is, even after talking with a Cuban coworker. Anyways the phrase is as follows, and if you could enlighten me, it would be greatly appreciated. =)

"Guajira Guantanamera!"

"Guajira" a person of or from a rural area. Mainly used in Cuba but not exclusively.

"Guantanamera" means from Guantanamo.

Guajira in this case is feminie. Guajiro would be the masculine. - pacofinkler, Jan 22, 2011
I think what we have here is interesting, I agree more-so with you translation rather than the reference to a peasant. I think there is a historic event that has changed the meaning to some. - DJ_Huero, Jan 30, 2011
Your answer makes more sense to the context it's in as well, however, EVERYONE was very enlightening in this discussion. Thanks! =) - DJ_Huero, Jan 30, 2011
