I can not finish lessons

When I get to the part where you are supposed to type the words it will not let me type anything in the box. I can use the letters at the bottom by clicking on them but cannot type. I use internet explorer. What am I doing wrong?
Please help if I cannot do that section I will never get enough points to complete a lesson.
