How to Use "Are"

In the sentence, "We are eating," do you say "Nosotros eres comemos," or "Nosotros son comemos". I am required to use "nosotros" and "comemos." Again, how do you use are in "they are hiding" "Are you drinking water" "What are you reading?" "They are opening the door." and "we are deciding tomorrow." Please help! My teacher never taught "are" but is giving work on it!

Are is Present Simple Tense of the verb to be. In Spanish ser and estar.

In your examples you need estar, the form depends on the subject.

Pronombre - Ser - Estar

Yo - soy - estoy

Tú - eres - estás

Él, ella, usted - es - está

Nosotros - somos - estamos

Vosotros - sois - estáis

Ellos, ellas, ustedes - son - están

The structure in English is:

to be + verb+ ing

I am speaking English.

In Spanish:

Estar + gerundio (find the gerunds, that is the present participles in the conjugation chartswink (look under "more")

So:

(Yo)estoy hablando inglés.

In the sentence, "We are eating," do you say "Nosotros eres comemos," or "Nosotros son comemos".

They are both wrong!

We are eating = Estamos comiendo

Again, how do you use are in "they are hiding" "Are you drinking water" "What are you reading?"

Each one is different. You need to do a lot of studying on these progressive forms, for they are different in both languages. "What are you reading?" is the easiest one: "¿Qué estás leyendo?", but not the others.
