Quieres ligar con mi mujer

Another ligar question, last time we decided that "ligar por internet" meant to do some internet dating (or browsing for profiles etc...) Ana ha ligado por internet. Now I hear "Quieres ligar con mi mujer", an accusation which I think is like "Quieres coquetear con mi mujer". Does that sound right to you? Coquetear = ligar? Also, it is used in Mexico or Spain only? Gracias.

In the UK it would translate as "Are you trying to get off with my wife?" "get off" here meaning ligar.

Jeezle has the right idea although coquetear is to flirt and ligar is a little stronger in the sense that flirting is a kind of fairly innocent social game which could lead to more - the "more" is when it becomes ligar.

quieres ligar con mi mujer in Argentina would be ´´ te querés levantar a mi mujer´, that is you want to pick her up

I have heard ligar in central american, mainly costa rica. I think tirar la onda is preferred in mexico. But yeah ligar would be equivalent to "hit on." "You hittin' on my woman??" etc.

you trying to hook up with my woman? Ligar means to link or attach together, so it sort of makes sense...trying to 'link up'
