Not that subtle. "Resfriado" is normally cause by viruses making you sneeze and affecting your temperature. In "catarro" there is usually an inflammation in the nose and/or throat, accompanied by a mucous secretion in the nose and the throat, plus occasional cough.

But not being medical terms, you cannot take them literally, of course.
