How would you say the english phrase "in person"?

For example, how would you say "I needed to see it for myself in person"

Or: "The commanders tactics were so audacious, I needed to see them in action in person"?

Or:

"When I went to visit in person, what I saw was different from what I expected?"

We say it exactly the same : "En persona". Personalmente means "Personally".

Dakie, serías tan amable de darme tu mejor traducción en español de cualquiera de las frases que propone RONNCC ? - Agora, Jan 17, 2011
Hola Agora: No sé por que me pides que te dé mi traducción al español si en tu perfil aparece que eres nativa, sin embargo ahí te van: - Dakie, Jan 17, 2011
- I needed to see it for myself in person. **Necesitaba verlo por mi mismo en persona**. Un poco redundante. - Dakie, Jan 17, 2011
- The commanders tactics were so audacious, I needed to see them in action in person. **Las tácticas de los comandantes eran muy audaces, necesitaba verlas en acción en persona**. - Dakie, Jan 17, 2011
- La verdad es que ambas oraciones son redundantes incluso en Inglés pero el punto es que si utilizamos "en persona". - Dakie, Jan 17, 2011
- Espero haber resuelto lo que sea que necesitabas que te aclarara. (¿Mi Inglés acaso?). -Saludos. Dakie. :) - Dakie, Jan 17, 2011

I agree with your answer. We also say "en carne y hueso". "De carne y hueso" is used in a different context. - Agora, Jan 17, 2011

"Frente al frente" (literally "front to front") can be used to mean face-to-face, if you were saying you needed to see another person, IN person... but the exact phrase in person, I'm also curious to know.
