Another referendum will be taken place on whether the Abyei area should become South Sudanese land. There is also a disputed region between South Sudan and Kenya (the Ilemi triangle)

The total area of South Sudan is 619, 745 km2 (239,285 sq mi). Its capital is Juba, a city on the White Nile river, and the capital of the state of Central Equatoria.

Before the independence of South Sudan, Montenegro and Serbia were the newest sovereign states in the world following the dissolution of Yugoslavia. Kosovo, Abkhazia, South Ossetia also declared their independences but they are not widely recognized diplomatically.
South Sudan will become the 193rd member of the United Nations, the 54th member of
the African Union, the 23rd member of
the League of Arab States if the country joins these organizations.
The country will be named the "Republic of South Sudan" when it declares its independence.

The total land area, not taking into account any disputed territory, is very close to that of the USA's Texas at 268,580 sq mi = 695,621 sq km, France at 247,219 square miles = 640,294 sq km and Ukraine at 233,090 square miles = 603,700 sq km, just to give some idea of its overall size...

...when you use "and," does that make these two religions inclusive? So a form of dual-faith or interfaith on the part of the majority? I know something similar took place with the native Americans that some of the major religions tried to convert centuries ago.... ![]()
They have voted for their independence but they're not yet free from persecution. They are asking for help and need a great deal of financial support. Muslim armies from the north are persecuting black Christians. Thousands are fleeing. They are fearful, hungry and without shelter. Bishop Macram Max Gassis of El Obeid Diocese, Sudan is trying to keep the villages in tact so the people won't have to run around homeless. Please help if you can:
