tj, I'm not an expert on this subject, but I will tell you what I do know. I have made two trips to Barcelona, Spain, to visit a friend. We had no problem eating during the day. We went to Chinese restaurants, Italian restaurants, and even a Burger King. By the way, the Chinese food was the worst I've ever eaten. It didn't taste like any Chinese food that I had ever eaten. I ordered a shrimp dinner. I received one large shrimp with it's head still on! I took one bite and realized that it was barely cooked. It was gooey! I gave it to my friend, Nuria. She sucked it right down. Nuria explained to me that the only way to know if a shrimp is fresh, and of good quality, is if it still has the head on it. If not, it would have been a frozen shrimp and that would be looked down upon. Pass the frozen shrimp, please! In the Italian place we had pizza. There were numerous varieties, however they only came in one size, 10 inch. It was the best pizza that I had ever eaten in my life! All the vegetables, and other ingredients, were fresh. If a Spanish pizzeria would open here I would never eat at any other pizzeria. One night we went out to eat. Nuria told me that the restaurants wouldn't open until 9:30 pm. I couldn't understand that. Other times we had eaten during the day. Anyway, we showed up at 9:30 pm. The place was closed. We went across the street to a bar and had a glass of wine. By 10 pm the restaurant was open and we had our dinner. One more thing. Restaurants are not quiet places like they are here. The Spanish really know how to let it all hang out! It's not considered rude restaurant manners to stand up and shout, laugh, yell, or jump around! They truly enjoy their eating out.
