Haber is an infinite verb, most frequently used as an auxiliary verb to form the perfect tenses.

Other 2 uses of this verb in Spanish are:

1 - as Hay + noun, which is third-person present indicative form of Haber that expresses the idea of existence. When you use it with singular noun it means there is, and when used with plural nouns it means there are .

Hay un libro sobre la mesa --> There is a book on the table

Hay dos libros sobre la mesa ---> There are two books on the table

...

2 - It is also used in the phrase hay que, meaning "it is necessary."

Hay que encender una fogata.
