Translator Problem

Translator Problem

When I go to the translator and enter an English phrase and click on the English to Spanish box, the translator shows me the phrase briefly in Spanish and then reverts to English. I don't think the problem happens if I enter Spanish to English.

So, my question is, is the problem happening to others or is it perhaps my browser? I'm using Firefox on a Mac. I don't think I've ever had this problem before.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Thanks

It is a new feature on the Google translator. - Very nice one too. See my post below. - ian-hill, Jan 16, 2011

It started happening two days ago to me. It translates for a brief moment, then goes to English. This is a strange problem, because it only happens about 75% of the time. Sometimes the translation sticks. I have used both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox (I have a PC) and the problem is the same.

I have another problem, too. There are now ads on my Mozilla Firefox, including the blinking ones. I am in Costa Rica, and on gandydancer2's PC. Is there a way to block the ads that I did once on my computer but have subsequently forgotten about?

Ok, I see now you have to tell it to stay in Spanish by selecting the option from the pull-down menu. Thanks. - lagartijaverde, Jan 16, 2011

Hmm, it's still happening when I type in an English phrase into the box. It only happens in the first box. If I scroll down the page the other translations are fine. Typing into the first box gives Spanish briefly and then it switches to the English phrase....Help! Heidi, are you sure it isn't happening when you type in an English phrase?

I assume you're using Google translator? If you are then you could try going onto google and accessing their translator tool directly. If that doesn't work, then try SDL translation service. I think they translate well, and their translator tool always works.

You can have your bookmark choose your language for you in the Google translator, if you go straight to Google for it.

Edit bookmark properties accordingly. I use two bookmarks, as below. Note that the last few characters differ between these two:

To get it to start Spanish->English

http://translate.google.com/#es|en|

To get it to start English->Spanish

http://translate.google.com/#en|es|

I use a program called Ad Block Plus. I'm on a Mac as I said but I think you can get it for PC as well. It's an Add-On in Firefox and you can "kill" any ads that bother you.

I think I've only found the problem with the translator for a couple of days as well.

I use Safari on a Mac. I've never seen your problem but when I enter anything the thing-like-mercury-on-a-thermometer jumps up and down before it settles at the top of its column. The Google result won't allow me to copy but the other two will.

Yes, there's something going weird about the translator I think. - lagartijaverde, Jan 15, 2011
