¿Que significa: diay?
I have observed this word (diay) posted numerous times in chats. I believe it is a typo, misspelling, slang or two words jammed together. Anyone know what it means?
An example:
Person A: Prefiero las chicas latinas, y aquí no viven.
Person B: diay si yo al reves. Yo prefiero lo extranjero, y aqui sí hay.
Another example:
Person A: ¡Fiesta! Dónde es hoy?
Person B: jaja diay mañana en San Pedro rica.

Have a look, seems to be Costa Rican slang![]()
Es una muletilla, se usa para responder algo obvio o para preguntar.
Ejemplo: - Vas a salir en la noche? - No - Te quedas en la casa
- Diay, si
- Diay, como estas?
I'm Costa Rican and I can tell you. We use "Diay", as it has been said here, as a filler. It doesn't have any specific meaning.
Examples:
Diay! Cómo estás? When you see a friend. (meaning Hola) Response: Diay! Bien! (Well, fine).
Diay! ayer te llamé y no contestaste. roughly meaning: What happened?
Me enteré que mi novio me engañaba. Response. Diay, sí! (meaning, roughly "Really?", but it is more of an empty expression. It doesn´t literally mean Yes.
You can even say "Y" or "Y sí" as contractions.
Hope it helps. There's more info on the Internet if you google it.
I'd say it's missing noche as in dia y noche, night and day, diay mañana, today and tomorrow too.
